One Last Shot by Stephen Anthony Brotherton / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources @FreddieJoJo1

CAN FIRST LOVE EVER BE REIGNITED?

One Last Shot concludes the trilogy of Freddie and Jo-Jo, which has moved through time in a series of flashbacks, showing how the couple fell in love as teenagers, why they drifted apart, what happened in their lives away from each other, and what happens when they meet up again over three decades later. At the end of the second book, An Extra Shot, Jo-Jo tells Freddie about her dark secret. Confused, vulnerable and in a state of shock, he says he needs time to think about what to do next. Jo-Jo’s right to be worried. Freddie doesn’t react well…

Q&A

  1. Did or do you like to read comic books/grapic novels? Which ones?

Yes. Topper, The Beano, The Dandy were all favourites. Favourite characters included Roger the Dodger, Billy Whizz and Gnasher, the pet dog of Dennis the Menace.

  1. Whom did you inherit your love for books/reading from?

Probably my dad. He used to read a lot of Cowboy books.

  1. When you need a murder victim or someone you can diagnose with a serious disease or someone who is involved in a fatal accident do you sometimes picture someone nasty you have met in real life and think ‘got you’ LOL?

It’s not happened yet, but I get the temptation…

  1. How do you come up with the names for your characters?

All sorts of ways. I think Freddie & Jo-Jo go rhythmically together. Freddie is named after the legend that was (and still is) Freddie Mercury. They are, though, completely different characters as you’ll realise when you read the books.

  1. Do write other things beside books (and shopping lists 😉 )?

Short stories and flash fiction. Some of these are published for the first time on this blog tour.

  1. If your movie or series would be made from your books, would you be happy with the ‘based on’ version or would you rather like they showed it exactly the way you created it?

I’d try and negotiate, but the truth is I’d be delighted with that level of interest. I’m not sure I’d be happy if they turned Freddie into an all action, perfect teeth hero. That would just be wrong.

  1. Who would you like/have liked to interview?

They do say you should never meet your heroes. We are all human at the end of the day and in real life there is a danger we’re not going to live up to expectations. Freddie Mercury & Bruce Springsteen. I’m not sure about interviewing them. I think I’d be tongue tied.

  1. Do you have certain people you contact while doing research to pick their brains? What are they specialized in?

Not really. My books are semi-autobiographical so I guess my head is the only source of reference.

  1. Is there someone you sometimes discuss a dilemma with?

Mainly myself. Sometimes my partner, but it’s mainly me.

  1. What is more important to you : a rating in stars with no comments or a reviewer who explains what the comments they give are based on (without spoilers of course)

Definitely the later. It’s always better to get the detailed feedback

About the author

I was born in Walsall, grew up in the West Midlands and now live in Telford with my two cats, Boris and Tai.

After working in the health and social care sector for over thirty years, I have now written the trilogy that has been rooted in my head for most of my life.

The Shots trilogy is based on a first love relationship I had as a teenager. It tells the story of Freddie and Jo-Jo, who are reunited in a coffee shop three decades after the end of their teenage romance. How they originally met, why they parted, what happens in their lives apart, and what happens when they reunite is all told through a series of first person vignettes.

Getting these stories down on paper has been a cathartic process. I hope you enjoy them.
