A Little Pick Me Up by Kate Portman / #Interview #BlogTour @LoveBooksGroup @KateLPortman @thewritinghall

Since the beginning of time, women have been made to feel bad about themselves. From our dress sizes to our careers, from our parenting skills to simply having an opinion, modern women come under immense, relentless pressure to look and behave in certain ways.

The stories we tell ourselves can lead to some dark emotions. They can even result in us hating ourselves – and other women.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though. We just need to realise our power, our value and our worth.

In a deeply personal book, award-winning blogger Katie Portman (www.poutinginheels.com) talks candidly about her own challenges as a woman and shares the tools she uses to overcome them. She invites fellow females to open their eyes to the beauty, power and potential that exists within them.

Covering subjects such as self-confidence, self-acceptance, ageing and identity, Katie holds up a mirror to gender imbalance, she lightens the mental load of mothers, and empowers everyone to practice self-love, not self-hatred.

With an ever-increasing focus on mental health, Katie’s messages should be relayed in schools, universities, on relationship apps and in mothers’ groups across the land. The book can be enjoyed in its entirety, or readers can dip into the ‘little pick me ups’ again and again and again – whenever they need a reminder of how wonderful they really are.

Q&A

1. Do you always take a book/e-reader wherever you go?

Yes! I have a kindle app on my iPhone that I read books on when I’m out and about. If I know I’m going on a long journey though or if I’m away from home for a long period of time, I’ll always take a book with me too.

2. Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

Good one!

3. Where can I find you when you are reading?

I’ll either be in the bath or in bed.

4. Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

Outside walking or browsing through my wardrobe!

5. Can you walk past a bookstore without going inside?

Never!

6. What are you most proud of?

Turning my life around after I went on a self-destruct mission when I was in my late teens and motherhood.

7. What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

There really is no feeling like it! Giddy with joy, slight disbelief and nerves!

8. What piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Be authentic and fight the fear! You can do it!

9. Who would you like/have liked to interview?

I would absolutely love to interview Oprah Winfrey or have interviewed Marilyn Monroe.

10. When and where do you prefer to write?

I write best early in the morning and I always prefer to write from my dining room table as there’s lots of natural light plus I can gaze out into the garden when I’m thinking or stewing things over.

Thank you, Kate Portman and Love Books Group
