Just A Girl by Becky Monson / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources @bmonsonauthor

What happens when the right girl and the right guy meet at the wrong time?

One thing that can be said about Quinn Pearson is that she has a knack for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Like, the worst time ever. Take her job for instance. One little slip of the tongue using the mother of all swear words while reporting the news, and suddenly she finds herself with over 18 million views on YouTube and her employment in jeopardy. If that wasn’t bad enough, when she meets the man of her dreams, she nearly chokes to death on a powdered sugar donut.

Thankfully for Quinn, the dashing Brit, Henry, finds her near death experience quite charming. But just when Quinn thinks her luck is going to change, she finds out her timing is all wrong again. Henry is off limits. Or is he? Maybe it’s time for Quinn to quit settling for what life hands her. Perhaps it’s time for her to become more than just a girl.

Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I’d love to be someone who gets up early in the morning and writes first thing, but since my bedtime is usually around 1 A.M. … that doesn’t happen too often. I tend to write while my kids are at school and then at night after they go to bed.

The dining room table seems to be the place where I get the most work done. I’ve often wondered if it’s the uncomfortable chairs. It keeps me awake.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

What I usually do is tell myself not to get on social media, but then I get on social media and that sucks my time away until I realize I’ve wasted nearly all my writing time, and then I write. It’s a terrible ritual. I do love to listen to music while I write, and I like to find a song that gives me the feeling of the book and I listen to that one the most. For the book I’m currently writing I’ve been listening to music by The Vamps, Niall Horan, and Jacob Whitesides.

– Is there a drink or some food that keeps you company while you write?

I always have chocolate around. But my main companion is Diet Coke.

– What is your favourite book?

I have a lot of favourites, but I really love I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella. Such a great book.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

I have a whole story in the Urban Fiction genre. I’ve written about 20k words, but then set it aside. Someday I plan to come back to it. I would also love to write a Regency romance. I have an entire storyline for a book in that genre as well. Maybe someday I will get up the nerve to try writing it!

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

Most of my characters are based on people I know. Especially side characters. Sometimes I tell the person that a character is based on them … and sometimes I don’t want them to know.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I wish I were that organized. Most of my notes end up in my phone and sometimes, because I’m typing so fast on that tiny phone keyboard, it’s not very legible. Autocorrect is my worst enemy.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

I can read just about any genre as long as there’s some sort of romance in it. I’m a sucker for a good romance. But I’d say that horror is probably my least favourite. Only because I like to sleep at night.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

I’ve attempted co-writing, and nothing has panned out! I’m not sure I’m any good at it. Maybe someday…

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

England! I love it there! The history, the people. I would love to set a book there. Maybe that Regency romance I will write someday. ❤
