The Desert Sage Inn Series, Book 1

Three talented women brought together by a man’s love…

When Rose Macklin is asked to help Alec Thurston, the one man she’s ever truly loved, by coming to Palm Desert, California, she doesn’t hesitate. He’s dying of cancer and needs her help in overseeing the sale of his hotel, The Desert Sage Inn, to another hotel group. With her marketing skill and as the owner of a very successful blog, she’s his perfect choice to make the sale a smooth transition while maintaining the reputation of the upscale property. She arrives to find two other women summoned to help Alec. Lily Weaver was once Alec’s assistant, and Willow Sanchez was like a daughter to him. They join forces to help him, lovingly accepting his nickname for them—the Desert Flowers, similar to the well-known Charlie’s Angels.

When Rose is assigned to work alongside Hank Bowers, an independent consultant to the hotel company’s team, she shudders at his reputation as an outgoing guy who always uses sports analogies and is certain they won’t get along. But Alec counsels her to give Hank a chance and, later, as they work together as a team, Rose is left to wonder if falling for one another is part of Alec’s secret plan even if one of Hank’s grown daughters fights the idea.

About the author

Judith Keim enjoyed her childhood and young-adult years in Elmira, New York, and now makes her home in Boise, Idaho, with her husband and their two dachshunds, Winston and Wally, and other members of her family.

While growing up, she was drawn to the idea of writing stories from a young age. Books were always present, being read, ready to go back to the library, or about to be discovered. All in her family shared information from the books in general conversation, giving them a wealth of knowledge and vivid imaginations.

A hybrid author who both has a publisher and self-publishes, Ms. Keim writes heart-warming novels about women who face unexpected challenges, meet them with strength, and find love and happiness along the way. Her best-selling books are based, in part, on many of the places she’s lived or visited and on the interesting people she’s met, creating believable characters and realistic settings her many loyal readers love. Ms. Keim loves to hear from her readers and appreciates their enthusiasm for her stories.

About the author

Natalya is an award-winning writing and dissertation coach with over two decades of experience teaching writing. She has coached professional writers and university writers of all skill levels–students, staff, and faculty.  Natalya currently runs Writing and Graduate Student Support at Ryerson University in Toronto, where she also teaches Writing for Wellness to staff and faculty and acts as a dissertation coach for graduate students.

Her passion is helping writers become more courageous, authentic, and kind to themselves. Through individual coaching, writing groups, and writing retreats, she has helped hundreds of writers to break through blocks and find inspiration, a more authentic voice, and a greater freedom in their writing and their life. Her doctoral research also focused on the intricacies of the writing process, exploring the relationship among the poetic, the feminine, and the sacred.

She lives in Toronto, Canada, and when she is not writing or meditating, she loves to play tennis, practice yoga, or sit by the water and cloud watch for hours. In her own writing practice, spanning three decades, she discovered that beliefs we have about our writing are not different from the beliefs we have about ourselves, so a new way of writing often translates into a new way of living. What was impossible becomes probable and even likely when we learn to write and live without fear.

Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I’m totally a morning writer, with 9:30-1 being my most productive hours.  However, since I write for a living, it’s not unusual for me to write all day (and if I’m on deadline, nights too).  Normally, I like to limit my writing to Monday through Friday, but that changes to Monday through Sunday the closer I get to my deadline.

As far as where I prefer to write?  I have an office with a beautiful L-shaped desk that my husband made and that I do not use.  I much prefer the chaise lounge on the other side of the room.  I also crave sunshine, so as soon as the weather gets warm enough, I move to the sofa on my three-season porch.  I’ve also been known to drive my car to an empty parking lot to write.  There is something about being in a silent car with coffee and a notebook that gets my creative juices flowing.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

Longhand writing.  I always start my novels by writing the first half by hand.  Actually, what I do is draft a chapter, type a chapter, alternating until the book is finished.  I also write in total silence.  Music of any kind disrupts the voices in my head.

Other than that, I have very few writing rituals.  I know writers who can’t start until they’ve completed their morning pages or meditated, but I’m not one of them.  Once I’ve checked my email and social media, I’m off to the races.

– Is there a drink of some food that keeps you company while you write?

I once dedicated a book to snack-sized candy bars. Does that count?  Seriously, though, I used to need some kind of coffee while I wrote, but stomach ailments made me cut back.  As for the candy, I would happily fuel my words with gummy bears, but my desire to maintain a decent weight keeps that habit to a minimum.

– What is your favourite book?

Oh man, that’s a hard question.  There are so many books that I’ve loved over the years that I’m not sure I could limit myself to one favourite. Plus, it seems like every year I have a new one.  Right now, I’m recommending everyone read Tara Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones and the Six because it was amazing.  Last year my favourite was The Alice Network.   If I were to pick a favourite romance of all time, I think it would be Mary Jo Putney’s Silk and Shadows.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

Yes, I have.  As a matter of fact, I already do!  A couple of years ago, I began the Sadie McIntyre mysteries, which are offbeat cozy mysteries.  I’m currently working on a dual timeline general fiction novel.  I believe very strongly that a writer should stretch herself and try new things. It keeps the creative juices fresh.

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

No.  My characters tend to be amalgamations of celebrities, television characters and imaginary people who exist only in my head.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I should, because that would be smart, but I don’t.  Instead, I tend to rely on my memory.  Fortunately for me, my ideas tend to swirl around in the back of my brain for years. The book I’m working on now, for example, began as a vague idea when I was 20 years old.  Over the past 30 years, it’s simmered and merged with other ideas.  Sometimes it takes that long for a story to cook.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

I will read anything if I have to and probably find something to enjoy about it.  However, I will never willingly venture into the science fiction/fantasy area.  I’m not a huge fan.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

Ooh, good question.  Naturally, it would be great fun to co-write with my best friend, Donna Alward, just because we’re besties. However, if I had to pick a dream co-author, it would be Tara Jenkins Reid or the fabulous Kate Quinn.

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

England, England, England!  I absolutely adore the UK and its history. I’d love to spend time in Northern England, around York or the Lake District (not to be confused with the Lakes Region which is in New Hampshire).

I also want to spend some time around Swindon. I have a story that I want to write that’s inspired by the late Diana Dors, who was from that area.

Her Banished Knights Redemption by Melissa Oliver / #Extract #BlogTour @rararesources @melissaoauthor

:

A lady’s need for protection
A knight’s chance for redemption

Exiled Knight William Geraint answers only to himself. Yet, a mission to find and reunite lost heiress Lady Isabel de Clancey with her family is Will’s chance to finally atone for the torment of his past. With every rushed mile, their intense attraction becomes dangerously thrilling. He swore to protect Isabel not seduce her, but their desire for each other could threaten the redemption he’s worked so hard to achieve…

:

Extract

Introduction to extract- Lady Isabel de Clancey has been living in the small village of St. Jean de Cole for the past 12 years unbeknown by her real family who had believed her to be dead. Here, William Geraint, commissioned to find her suspects that she is indeed the lost lady…

Just as when they had danced together, his piercing gaze made her knees feel a little weak. Made her feel a little breathless. He was certainly handsome, but there was more to him than just that, some unknown quality behind that penetrating gaze. He intrigued her, even though he really shouldn’t.

Isabel wondered again whether he was really the same boy who had rescued her a lifetime ago. The memory of his kindness etched on to her mind had been replaced by this man’s mocking tone. For the first time since his appearance at the feast, Isabel wondered what had happened to him in the intervening years since boyhood. What had happened to that young, caring squire she remembered or had she made far too much of the boy-hero? She could not have. William Geraint had, without a thought for his own safety, saved her life.

She gave herself a mental shake.

‘As I said before, I’m not sure why you remain here in our little village that sadly provides you with an inadequate place to rest and sleep, when your search had proved unsuccessful.’

‘Oh, I wouldn’t say that,’ he said, raising his brow.

Again, that gaze of his was making her feel a little on edge. It conveyed that he didn’t believe a word she said.

God, but every time Isabel encountered this man, she somehow reinforced and strengthened his belief that she was Lady Isabel de Clancey. And just as every other time, she had to get away. She couldn’t stay and be reminded of what she owed her real family, her duty to them. Oh, yes, the doubt and guilt were slowly gnawing at her.

She took a step in an attempt to get away. Far away. ‘If you’ll excuse me.’

He caught her arm gently, the warmth of his fingers sending a shot of unexpected awareness through her.

‘I do not mean to cause you any distress. I am only here for one purpose and one purpose only.’

‘Ah, but consider, messere, that your purpose is the very thing that is the cause of my distress.’

He raised a brow. ‘Why?’

‘Not everyone desires to be found, Sir William, or for that matter welcomes their old life back,’ she hissed under her breath.

Introduction
Your life is about to change. Embedded within this book are ideas and lessons that have been passed
down from one generation to the next for centuries. My only goal behind writing this book is to take
the principles I have acquired, couple them with the experience and lessons I have learned in over 20
years of working in a variety of leadership positions, and merely pay it forward.
These leadership principles have been tested over time and have proven to be the necessary
ingredients to create success. If you choose to apply them in your life, you will achieve more peace
and prosperity than you ever thought possible. Your results will be contingent on the effort you put
into applying these lessons.
Success comes in many colors, but make no mistake, it all comes from behind the same door. The
problem for you and millions of others like you is that the door is currently locked. The door requires
a key to unlock everything you want in life. Not any key will do. The key must be the right size and
shape, and it must be turned in the proper sequence to unlock the door of success. Along with the
key is a willingness to open your mind to the belief that if you want something bad enough and are
willing to follow in the footsteps of others who have traveled this path and achieved similar results,
you can have it.
I know because I have the key, and I have unlocked the door. I am no different than you. The son
of a public-school educator with modest means, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I
began my climb over 20 years ago and have successfully reached the summit of my profession. My
goal is to help you achieve the summit too.
I have studied leadership throughout my life and have read hundreds of books, allowing me to
become an authority on the topic. Most of the leadership principles in this book are not mine. This
book is full of quotes and leadership principles from authors who have been influential in my life. The
principles embedded within this book have come from those who walked this trail before me and
have been kind enough to pay it forward so a small-town Oklahoma kid from humble beginnings could
achieve his dreams. I am grateful to those who came before me. My goal is to gather all the leadership
principles I have acquired into one book and simplify the complexity of the leadership gauntlet. I want
to encourage you to pay close attention to the sequence of the leadership principles. Learning can be
linear, and many of the concepts and methods build on one another.
Before we begin our journey together, I want you to know one thing. I believe in you. When you
practice these principles in a disciplined fashion, you will begin to see your life change in a positive
direction. Waiting at the completion of this book is the answer you desire. The blueprint of success in
your life is right behind this door. Turn the page and unlock your future.

A Remedy in Time by Jennifer Macaire / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources @jennifermacaire

:

To save the future, she must turn to the past . . .

San Francisco, Year 3377. A deadly virus has taken the world by storm. Scientists are desperately working to develop a vaccine. And Robin Johnson – genius, high-functioning, and perhaps a little bit single-minded – is delighted. Because, to cure the disease, she’s given the chance to travel back in time.

But when Robin arrives at the last Ice Age hoping to stop the virus at its source, she finds more there than she bargained for. And just as her own chilly exterior is beginning to thaw, she realises it’s not only sabre-toothed tigers that are in danger of extinction . . .

:

:

Q&A

  1. Which character would you like to be in this book?

I’d love to be Robin, of course! She was a great character to work with – she’s fearless, dedicated to her work, and can swear fluently in three languages! She’s got no past,  so she lives very much for the present. She doesn’t waste time and she makes decisions quickly – All of which are traits I do not share with her – except the swearing. I can swear fluently in three languages, lol.

  1. Do you always take a book/reader wherever you go?

I have an e-book reader, so I take a whole library with me! Unless I’m going to work, yes, I always take it with me.

  1. Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

That’s a good question – the good guy always wins and so that’s tempting – but the bad guy can be like Loki – with a huge chip on his shoulder and devestating good looks… Oh gosh, now I can’t decide! I mostly see myself as the sidekick – the Holmes to Sherlock, or the assistant magicien – and I will admit, I am a goodie-two-shoes, so I’d probably prefer being the ‘good guy’.

  1. Do you prefer to read/write standalones or series?

Honestly, both are fine, but I love finding a new series because when I get attached to the characters and the story, it’s hard to let go.

  1. Where can I find you when you are reading?

Curled up in a chair, either out on the balcony if it’s sunny and warm, or in the living room next to the heater in the cold weather. I read every night in bed too – with my e-reader, I don’t have to worry about the light bothering my husband!

  1. Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

I have a full time job in a medical office, and I love to bike to and from work – so during the week you can find me at the office or on my bike. On weekends I love a hike in the countryside with my dog. With the Covid-19 and the lockdowns, I’ve been frustrated with no chance to hike, but I’m patient and I’m sure we’ll find a way through all this.

  1. Can you walk past a bookstore without going inside?

No! (that was easy!)

  1. What are you most proud of?

My children – I say this without hesitation. They are good, kind, fun to be with, hard workers, and content with their lives – I’m blessed to be their mom.

  1. What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

I’m always thrilled – it really is like in a fantasy or science-fiction, and I’m about to step into a new world!

  1. What piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Read, read, read, write, write, write, and most of all, do everything with a passion.

Thank you, Jennifer Macaire and Rachel’s Random Resourves.

My Mother’s Secret by Julia Roberts / #Review #BooksOnTour @bookouture @JuliaRobertsTV

:

‘They told me he died, but I never believed them. I’d have known,’ she says, her voice little more than a whisper and her eyes searching mine. ‘A mother would know if her child died, wouldn’t she?’

The phone call comes in the middle of the night, rousing Danni from her safe, warm bed. The police have found her mother Diana wandering miles from her house, confused and lost. Danni races to her mother’s side – and as usual, Diana doesn’t seem to want her there. But when Danni finds out that her mother is seriously ill, she decides to put the past behind her, and care for her mother in the time they have left.

But as some of Diana’s memories are slipping away, others are forcing their way to the surface. One night she breaks down and reveals that before Danni was born, she had another baby who never got to see the world. Faced with her mother’s heartbreak, Danni vows to do everything she can to bring Diana some peace, hoping that it will mend their fractured relationship too.

Yet as Danni investigates the past, tracking down the aunt she’s never met and searching for her lost brother’s resting place, her good intentions have unexpected consequences as more truths emerge. And there’s one shocking revelation which could change Danni’s life forever. Are some secrets best left buried?

Review

Loving someone is not always easy. Sometimes you give them to much attention and you smother them. Sometimes you don’t give them enough by far and you neglect them.

When it happens to adults, they can talk about it, but when it happens with children, it’s a lot more complicated. Some of them leave home to find someone to love them, others do it to find some space and air to breathe. In both cases it’s not always easy to visit your parents, but when something devastating happens, they still are your parents and you will help them and stand by them no matter what.

It’s a very emotional story and it would be very hard to cope with everything that life throws at you without a loving, supporting and understanding entourage.

Quite a few hearts went through the wringer, but love was, is and always will be the glue to make it whole again.

I love the book and kudos to the author for that one revelation that made my jaw drop to the floor.

5 stars..

Thank you, Julia Roberts and Bookouture

Florida Wildlife Warriors, Book 2

Sultry romantic suspense set in Florida’s untamed wilderness…

When your heart’s involved…

If you dare venture beyond Disney’s magic and Miami’s high-rises, you’ll find yourself in Florida’s untamed wilderness.

A bush pilot and officer for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Josh Tanner is one of the tough cops needed to manage these rugged areas. And the minute he finds Delilah Atwood deep in the woods without a good explanation, he knows something is very wrong…

All the stakes are raised…

Delilah barely escaped her ultra-fundamental militia family years ago. Now she’s back to save her sixteen-year-old sister, and no government man is going to stop her. Josh isn’t going to stand by and watch Delilah risk her life, but unless he can get her to trust him, she may end up being the next victim.

Beyond Risk

Florida Wildlife Warriors, Book 1

Former Florida Fish & Wildlife Officer Charlotte “Charlee” Tanner still carries the guilt of a tragic drowning accident that occurred on her watch. She hoped moving back home to central Florida would provide a safe haven―until she learns that her beloved wilderness is full of twisted lies and deadly secrets, including the fact that the death that’s haunted her was no accident…and she was the intended target.

Tough and decisive, Lieutenant Hunter Boudreau has just been promoted as a law enforcement officer with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, though not everyone on the force is happy about the change. Despite the friction at work, Charlee is his best friend, so when she comes under fire, he’s not letting her out of his sight until the killer is caught. But Hunter has secrets of his own, and Charlee is determined not to let anyone else die for her.

As danger closes in and Charlee and Hunter’s attraction threatens to consume them, Charlee has to decide whether she can trust Hunter. And to save Charlee, Hunter will have to trust her, too.

Extract

Part of chapter 1

Darkness that was my world now, literally I surrounded myself in a dark so black that even the devil feared me.
I am so numb in this world, alone with a demon I call home and my
thoughts.
It’s just me, the demon and my brothers, the club. I bleed for them, for my
cut. I would kill for both. Honor and loyalty. When I fell off the wagon, they
picked me up. Pulled me hard through the shit, begging me to keep my
head up when the dark, black waters were drowning me.
Life is about making mistakes and I have made more than my fair share.
Not once did they turn on me.
Not once did they leave me.
They stayed.
They fought with me as the last parts of her poison left my body. They
watched her break me and they saw me at my worst. It’s the same way
now. I won’t leave my brother. I won’t fail when he needs me the most. I
know how hard her grip is. That taste for a numbness she brings is so
hypnotic that you’re blinded. I look in his eyes as he sits here staring at the
wall and I see her dancing, taunting, haunting him. He sees her in my eyes
also.
“I got you.” My voice low as a tear leaves his eye, sliding down his cheek to
his bare chest as his body sweats and shakes. One lone tear telling the
story of a brother in the final stages of detox. A human broken by the sweet
sinful taste of an angel dressed in white. His nose bleeding from her love
that’s fake.
I fucking feel him breaking, I do. His soul is shattered and the only one
holding him together is that beautiful women sitting in the window box, the
sun hitting her face lighting her up like the fucking insane miracle that she
is. She’s his angel now.
“I didn’t mean to, I love you.” Her tears streamed down her white cheeks,
eyes sunken in with black rings like designer bags hanging under her eyes.
Her shaking hands reached for me, grabbing my cut.
“Again, Hannah, again. You fucked him again.” My voice boomed in the
small room. “Look at your fucking face.” I move my hands to her face,
squeezed her cheeks and twisted her face to the side.
“You leave me to come fuck him, get high with him for days on fucking end.
On fuck knows what dodgy drugs he’s slamming into your veins and up
your nose. Then he beats you up in a drug induced rage and you fucking
come back crawling expecting me to fix it. Expecting my brothers and the
club to fix it, and me to take you back.” I dropped my hands from her face,
letting her fall to the floor where she fucking belonged.
“Baby, it’s you. It’s always been you. I love you.” She gripped at my jeans,
as she tried to pull her strung-out ass body up my legs.

About the author

I’m a Wife and a mum to 6 wonderful children. I’m from New Zealand and live in a cute little village called Wharepapa South in the North Island but I was born and bred in Nelson in another cute village called Wakefield in the South Island of New Zealand.

I love coffee and cake way too much. I’m addicted to sour Skittles and writing some pretty badass books if I do say so myself.

My writing varies between genres – such as the Mafia and MC worlds but I also write ‘real life’ stories filled with angst and pleasure.
