A Chance Encounter by Rae Shaw / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources

Julianna Baptiste, a feisty bodyguard, finds her new job tedious, that is until her boss, the evasive Jackson Haynes, spikes her curiosity. Who is behind the vicious threats to his beautiful wife and why is he interested in two estranged siblings?

Mark works for Haynes’s vast company. He’s hiding from ruthless money launderers.

His teenage sister Ellen has an online friend whom she has never met. Ellen guards a terrible secret.

For eight years their duplicitous father has languished in prison, claiming he is innocent of murder. The evidence against him is overwhelming, so why does Mark persist with an appeal?

Keen to prove her potential as an investigator, Julianna forces Mark to confront his mistakes. The consequences will put all their lives in danger.

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I used to write full-time, but a change in circumstances means I can’t write as frequently. These days, I’m pleased if I can manage a short burst at the weekend.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

Not really. The only thing I do is re-read the last thing I wrote to adjust to the voices of the characters. Hard to do when I’m not writing as often as I would like.

– Is there a drink or some food that keeps you company while you write?

Herbal teas and cake, preferably chocolate.

– What is your favourite book?

I don’t have a favourite – I couldn’t pick one book from a lifetime of reading. It depends on my mood too.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

The switch to Crime from Women’s Fiction has been a challenge, I don’t plan on doing it again in the near future!

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

Not intentionally. However, novels can’t help being based on personal experiences, so there’s always going to be pieces of the people I know in some of them – the nice ones, naturally.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I generally carry a small notebook and pen wherever I go, or sometimes I jot things down on a tablet.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

Horror or anything with unnecessary violence or gore. I love a good suspense story, but nothing nasty.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

I’m not sure I would like to – it would mean compromises perhaps. Maybe Colin Dexter; he wrote brilliant plots, and I could learn a lot from complex plotting. Sadly, he’s passed away.

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

Italy, which is a location in one of my Women’s Fiction novels; a current work in progress I’m editing.
