A weekend at the spa will leave four old friends with a whole lot more than they’d bargained for…
The glossy brochure promised a serene experience of total tranquillity and rejuvenation, but what best friends Bridgette, Emily, Serena and Marjory get is a weekend that upends their lives!
There for a girls’ weekend to celebrate Bridgette’s impending seventieth birthday, the spa soon has these spicy sexagenarians realising that there are unexpected benefits to age and experience, and that over the hill certainly doesn’t mean out of the game…in any respect…

Els, many thanks for hosting me on your lovely blog.
Spa breaks and why I love them
In my new novel, The Spa Break, four friends, Bridgette, Serena, Marjory and Emily, head off to a luxury spa for the weekend to celebrate Bridgette’s big birthday.
I think a spa break is a perfect place to relax, especially if it is a celebration involving close friends. I’ve enjoyed some super holidays with my girlfriends, where we have relaxed, chilled out and felt safe in each other’s company.
Stepping into a spa is like stepping into another world. From the moment you arrive, you leave behind any cares and worries and become immersed in a tranquil environment where pampering and relaxation are the main priorities. For an author, a spa is a wonderful place for research. Like a hotel, a spa is a revolving door of different characters, all with their own agenda and characteristics. Relaxing at a spa gives an author time to think, plot and plan, and, following a recent stay at a spa, my new novel soon began to take shape.
A spa offers an opportunity to try something new. In The Spa Break, Emily took up yoga, Marjory had massages, Bridgette learnt to ‘glamp’ in the garden, and Serena discovered how to take selfies and become an Instagram sensation. My spa achievements have included learning how to experiment with makeup, trying Tai Chi and enjoying an extremely healthy diet whilst following a planned detox regime. For the characters in the book, life-changing events happen through their willingness to come out of their comfort zones. All are of ‘a certain age,’ which for some may be prohibitive when new challenges arise. But I believe that we should all leave our comfort zones well and truly behind during periods of our lives, no matter what age. Getting older shouldn’t be feared; it should be looked on as a new challenge, a fresh bite of the cherry and an opportunity to run down the road to happiness, not stagger along worrying about getting older. Age really is just a number!
Thank you so much for hosting me as I celebrate publication of The Spa Break.
Happy reading everyone,
