The police dump the pair in a witness protection program, which doesn’t last long. Either the killer has a connection to the police, or he’s far more intelligent than they realize. All Chanel wants to do is get back to her safe life and get to know her neighbor better. Instead, she and Ryan hit the road and try to survive on their own.

How will they stay alive and keep their blooming romance intact with the killer hot on their trail?

Q&A

Whom did you inherit your love for books/reading from?

My mom loved to read ’80s and ’90s bodice rippers when I was little, and all those scantily-clad men and women on the covers drew my attention. I read my first Harlequin when I was 12, and I’ve been hooked on romance books ever since.

Where can I find you when you are reading?

I have this comfy bench in my office that’s perfect for reading. It’s right in front of a window and squeezed in between two bookshelves. If I’m not there, I’m either in bed or on the deck reading.

Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

My hubby, Greg, and I love to binge watch TV shows (our favorites are Supernatural and Star Trek: TNG), so you’ll find us as couch potatoes in the living room. We also love to hike, ride our bikes, play with our cats, and challenge each other to a card or board game.

What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

Awe, surprise, humility, pride, vindication—all these emotions and more rush through me. I marvel at the weight of the book and how the colors pop on the cover. I love the new-book smell too.

What is your favourite and least favourite genre?

I read in most sub-genres of romance, except for Inspirational, but my favorite is a tie between romantic suspense and paranormal. I suppose, in that respect, Inspirational is my least fav.

Do you read non-fiction?

I do. I love history books. I’ve dedicated an entire bookshelf to world civilization texts, Ancient and Medieval periods, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian culture and mythology, Native American legends, Scottish history, American history, and more.

Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

It wouldn’t matter to me. Just being asked is honor enough. Besides, I wouldn’t want to stomp on an author’s creativity by throwing a fuss about said character who has my name.

Have you already started writing a new book?

Yes. There’s never a point when there isn’t at least one book already in the works. I’m hard at work getting Arresting Benjamin, book three in the Arresting Onyx series, ready for publication.

What is the title of the next book on your to read pile?

I have no idea. Since I have over 1000 ebooks on my Kindle and around 600 paperback romances in my office, I don’t usually know what I plan to read until I start searching for something.

Thank you

Review

There are some jobs people consider being lowly. Being a waitress seems to fit in this category perfectly, according to some anyway. What is a lowly job? A job you can do without having a diploma? A job that does not pay much? A job you do not need a lot of brain cells for?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. In my opinion there is no such thing. I admit some jobs are open to more people and don’t demand a lot of education, but every job is important. It’s high time people start changing their point of view.

Having a job you love is the most crucial factor. It does not matter whether you are a doctor or a post man. You spend a lot of time working and having amazing colleagues is a great bonus.

This is how Kit feels about her job. She does not care she does not earn fortunes, but she is happy being a waitress. At least until that day…

A day she will never forget. A day that has put a black veil over about almost everything she does and feels.

When her luck suddenly changes, this should be the first step to climbing out of the dark pit she finds herself in. It seems though someone is not going to allow this…

I was confused in the beginning. I did not quite understand what was going on. It felt a bit all over the place. I guess the author did this on purpose, using this to show us the mindset the main character was in.

It took be a bit to get into the story, but suddenly I saw the light. The author alternated the present with the past in order to give us the backstory.

I picked up two of the hints giving me ‘AHA’ moments, but no way I had figured everything out. So room enough for a few ‘WHAT?’ moments too.

I enjoyed the story and will be looking forward to reading more of this author’s books. 4 stars

Thank you

Unforgivable by Natalie Barelli / #Review #BooksOnTour @bookouture

Your ex-wife didn’t leave you because of me. She didn’t abandon her little girl because of a couple of love notes in your jeans pocket. She left because she’s twisted, and she wanted to punish you. And she’s not finished yet. You have to believe me. If you don’t, there’s no knowing what she’ll do next…Becoming a stepmother is the best thing that ever happened to me. My favorite part of every day is picking Charlie up from school, watching her little rucksack bounce behind her as she skips over for a hug. I love the feel of those thin freckled arms around my waist. After a few rocky months of panic attacks when her mother deserted her, Charlie is flourishing. But the day Charlie’s mother Bronwyn returns without warning—showering Charlie with gifts and making promises she can’t keep—fear ripples through me.When I raise my concerns, no one wants to listen. I know I sound like the jealous new wife, but nothing is more important to me than Charlie’s safety. Me and Bronwyn have history. We both have dark secrets in our past, and I know the dangerous lengths she will go to get what she wants. But Bronwyn doesn’t know me as well as I know her.She doesn’t know just how far I will go to protect that little girl…

Review

What is the goal of psychological thrillers? The answer is an easy one: messing with your head and make it spin so much because of the twists and turns that, at the end, you don’t even know which direction you are facing.

If you are a fan of this genre, you should try this one. I was on the cusp of calling the mad house, because I really thought I was losing it…

The author had me running in circles and there were only two persons I was convinced they were trustworthy. All the rest though… Hmm hmm.

How would you feel when your boyfriend’s soon-to-be ex-wife Bronwyn shows up for a visit? Of course, it’s her right, because she is still your stepdaughter’s mother, but Laura’s hackles rise straight away and she is on high alert. She knows Bronwyn. They have a history together and would you believe that’s just where the problem lays?

Laura is being thrown back and forward, not knowing the right end of the stick anymore. When she digs deeper and thinks she has finally found out the truth, she is in for a few more shocking revelations. How can it be there is so much hate and evil in a person? She can hardly believe it, but here she is: facing a demon. There is only one thing left for her to do: fight with all she has in her.

OMG, my head has not stopped spinning yet. This is an amazing story that I thoroughly enjoyed from the first letter until the last full stop. 5 stars

Thank you

Extract

prologue
For most of us, it takes a while to realise that we cross lines in our lives. Silent, unmarked borders of time that we pass, as if in our dreams, without ever realising what we are leaving behind. We do not see that the matchless nights of being cherished and held close are vanishing even as we live them, and that we are all refugees from one war-torn country or another, or from one war-torn love story or another. Time moves so deceptively that we never say, “This is the last walk I will take with you along the shore.” Or, “This afternoon I carried a child in my arms for the final time.” Perhaps early this morning while we dressed and put the kettle on, our destiny advanced, unwatched.

Review

When you look out of the window and you see a cloudy day, it often makes you a bit sad. Especially when it’s during the summer and on a day in the weekend. Now you finally have the time to go outside and enjoy the sun, it seems she is on a day off too.

What you need on a day like this is a book to make you smile and that’s when I pick up a story by this author. She is the master of sunny faces and smiles galore. Her books are so lovely and funny. Even a snowstorm in June could not bring me down.

You might remember I was a bit sad after finishing her previous book. Her series about 5 sisters came to an end and I had a hard time saying goodbye. Not being able to catch up with them had left an emptiness in my heart, but she created another great family to fill this up again.

We meet the Jewell family. Josie’s parents did not have the most common job in the past and it’s not something you talk about on your first date. Even her own job is a subject she prefers to keep quiet about. It’s not as if being an MD is something to be ashamed about. It’s the kind of company she works for that often makes people feel awkward.

Of course keeping secrets, leads to funny situations, but in the end you are so entangled in the lies you feel like a fly in a spider’s web. And when then everything is revealed before you had a chance to come clean, it all blows up in your face.

Is everything broken beyond repair or maybe Josie is not the only one looking for an explanation and forgiveness?

This is another fantastic book by this author. I think I will crown her my queen of smiles. I smiled, I laughed, I sniggered and wiped away a tear too. 5 stars. No question about that.

Thank you

About the Author

It still blows my mind to be able to say that I’m an award-winning, best-selling author of over 40 books for adults, young adults and children, because I’m also a former council estate kid and university drop-out who gave up on my writing dream because I didn’t think I was from the right (aka posh enough) background. So I really am proof that miracles can happen!

It’s safe to say that my books cover very wide ranging subjects, from spirituality, love and friendship to World War 2, the refugee crisis and talking animals! One theme remains constant however, my desire to leave my readers feeling uplifted and inspired.

My first historical novel, An American in Paris, was published in 2021 and became an Amazon best-seller in the US and UK, which I was over the moon about, as it turns out I have a real passion for writing historical fiction. I love unearthing the lesser known facts and details from World War 2 and presenting them to readers in stories that will resonate today. My other World War 2 novels are Beyond This Broken Sky, The Paris Network, and the yet to be titled ‘Book 4’ – which will be published by Bookouture in August 2022.

I’m also currently writing two more books for my Moonlight Dreamers series for young adults.

Because my path to writing success has been such a bumpy one, I love nothing more than helping other people achieve their writing dreams via my online community, THE WRITING ADVENTURE (you can find us on Facebook).
