A Modern-Day Fairy Tale That Will Have Readers Swooning

Lily is headstrong, independent, and stuck in a loop of bad luck. She makes fairy figurines that customers buy to bring them good luck, but her merchandise doesn’t seem do the same for her. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t believe in them.

Theos is handsome and charismatic, a kite-surfing superstar who travels the world. So why is he drawn to Lily and the store on a California beach she struggles to keep afloat? And could she be the one to trigger the awakening of his unusual destiny?

“Summer Thunder is one of the most anticipated romance novel debuts this year.” — Kendra Goldsborough, Four Seasons Books

“Is there anything in particular I can show you, sir?”

He shook his head and answered without looking up.

“I’m not sure why I’m here. Something about this shop drew me in.”

She couldn’t place his accent, and while the unusual cadence of his speech intrigued her, his remark sent up a red flag.

“I see.”

His flawless tanned face with the sexy two-day stubble smiled back and briefly revealed perfect straight teeth that rivaled her tiara for sparkle. When he locked his eyes on hers, she felt the same magnetic sensation return.

“Perhaps it was you,” he added.

On the twisted tree trunk table in the dark vestibule of The Witch’s Cauldron, a flame from a massive round stump of wax formed from years of dripping, flickered its greeting. The lighting in the main area of the store was bright enough to show‐ case her merchandise, yet appropriately dim for a shop run by a witch. Greta crammed things for sale into every conceivable nook. Shelves overflowed with vials of herbs and elixirs, curiosities dangled from the rafters, and witch hats, magic wands, and cloaks hung on the walls. Stacks of broomsticks “suitable for sweeping or riding” spilled into the aisles. Summer Thunder 3 Lily watched women and men grabbing things from everywhere and even fighting over merchan‐ dise, as if they were under a spell. For a moment she believed she saw things actually flying off the shelves and into customers’ baskets. A long queue had al‐ ready formed to the register where many of the cus‐ tomers paid extra to pose for a selfie with the witch herself. Lily had to admit that Greta was a pro. Lily ducked back into her own shop hoping the momentum would carry those big spenders her way, but for thirty dispiriting minutes she watched Greta’s customers filter out to the Boardwalk and head in other directions. She sank into her chair behind the checkout counter and closed her eyes, discouraged at missing out on such a promising opportunity and wondering if something was wrong with her store.
