A woman is found dead on the island of Gozo. The cops say she fell from the Azure Window tourist spot, but her father thinks otherwise.

CIA Section Chief Foster needs help to prove it was murder, so he turns to the only person he knows can get the job done: John Steel.

The Hive, securely seated under the US Embassy on the island of Malta, is an operation that monitors all passage from North Africa and the Middle East into Europe and the US. A platform that requires the latest in technology and facial recognition.

In seven days, that software will be updated. In two days, all hell will break loose. And the clock is ticking for an attack on American soil.

Together with the beautiful Sammara Malk of Mossad, can Steel find out who killed Lucy – and stop whoever is behind the impending attack?

Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I don’t really have a particular time. I wish I could get up and start writing like it was a job. However, I find I write best when I’m in the mood too. Writing isn’t something I can force. It just happens. As the where, I write when I can, whether it is at home or at work on my breaks. I do have a desk where I do most of my work.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

Not really. I don’t have a unique t-shirt, or I have to do this and that beforehand. I guess the only one would be to make sure I have plenty of coffee on standby.

– Is there a drink or some food that keeps you company while you write?

Coffee. Possibly a couple of biscuits.

– What is your favourite book?

The one I haven’t written yet. I say it’s my favourite because it is the one that pushes me. It is the one that I struggle to better myself in my work, so I’m good enough to write. And if you ask me what it is, it is every book I have yet to write.

– Would you consider writing a different genre in the future?

Never say never. I believe an author should find a way to grow. At the moment, I write thrillers, but who knows, in five years, it could be horror or SCI-FI.

  – Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

I wouldn’t say base on, even though I have done slightly on my latest book. I’d like to think it is more like taking elements from people, like a mannerism or something I found pleasant or repulsive about a person.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I can make notes on my phone. A lot better than paper. However, I have carried notebooks in the past. It is essential in our line of business. You never know where that idea my spring up.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

I’d have to say Romance. I wouldn’t say I hate it because I’ve never tried reading it. It doesn’t appeal to me, I’m afraid.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

No, I don’t think I could. But again, never say never.

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

I love to travel. Fortunately, I have been to most places in my books, such as New York and Malta. I feel it is essential to do so. You have to get a feel for the place. The people, the smells, the energy a place gives off. You can’t do that using Google, I’m afraid. As for which country should I like to travel to for my next novel? Who knows, there are so many on my must-see list.
