In the mood for a heart-warming holiday read to whisk you off to Italy and Greece?

When Leah Castelli’s husband – Antonio – walks out of her life, he leaves behind a lot of heartache, his two-year-old daughter, Rosie, and a mountain of debt. With no contact at all from him over the next seven years, Leah focuses on her job as a freelance photographer to pay the bills and put a roof over their heads.

In the evenings she expands her photographic website to include holiday snaps. After a chance interview with the iconic popstar, Harry Martin at the prestigious Altar Bar resort in Cannes, her post went viral. And dreams of becoming a full-time travel blogger didn’t seem quite so distant.

And now, having won the Traveller Abroad: Top Travel Blogger award, overnight she’s finally able to give up the day job and work from home. Plus, the offers to experience some fabulous trips begin to roll in.

Leah soon finds herself on a cruise ship heading off to Monaco, Portovenere and on to Civitavecchia in Italy. But when her daughter accompanies her on a working trip to Athens, out of the blue life suddenly begins to get a lot more complicated. Can one chance encounter change Leah and Rosie’s life forever – or is that one risk too far?

My review

I love reading Christmas stories but on the other hand I am quite happy to leave them behind for about a year and I was so looking forward to start a book partly taking place in sunny Greece. I do admit that the festive season also gives you a warm feeling but I am still more a sun, sea and sand kind of girl. Give me blue skies and seas and white beaches and I am packing my suitcase.

Well this book made me want to jump on a plane and read it under an umbrella basking in the warm weather, but I will have to make do by reading it at home under a cosy blanket.

There are a lot of descriptions in the book about nature and interior designs. I like that because I am a very visual person and I like to be able to picture exactly what the background is. In this case it was very detailed but I think it was a very good call due to the main character’s occupation. It was like killing two birds with one stone resulting in a perfect fit.

The story is about love lost and found again, coming to terms with the past and looking forward to the future and about making difficult decisions in the process.

I liked the book and I was pleased there was an epilogue to give us a glimpse into the future. I can say, without any doubt, that my first read of the new year was a success. 4 stars.

Thank you, Linn B. Halton and RachelsRandomResources.
