As The Skies Cry by Steve N. Lee / #Review @Steve_N_Lee

Sometimes, the one you’re saving is really saving you.

Harley loses everything when his master dies — his home, his best friend, his reason for living. Day after day, he trudges the streets, trembling from the biting cold, whimpering from the gnawing hunger.

Across town, Rachel has an alimony hearing looming and a make-or-break deadline hurtling toward her, yet they aren’t her biggest worries — her autistic son has withdrawn so far into his own private world, he barely acknowledges she even exists.

Luckily, the magic of life is in the surprises no one ever sees coming…

Review

The author stole my heart, just like he did in his previous book, by creating a wonderful and cute dog.  He takes us on a journey inside Harley’s head and shows us the world seen through the eyes of a dog, a service dog in this case.

I know service dogs can do a lot, but each and every time I was amazed by what they can achieve. They not only often are they eyes or hears for their pack, but they can heal their hearts and souls.

On the other hand we have the story about Rachel and her son Wes. I loved the changes they went through together and they were heartwarming, but some of them were truely heartbreaking too.

It is a beautiful story, but I did not always like Rachel. In my opinion she was sometimes a bit to harsh.

Overall, there are a lot of parts I really loved and I had a lot of ‘ooowww how cute’ moments, but for me there was a lack of balance between the good times and the bad times. Unfortunately, it was all a bit too sad for me.

BUT… the author does understand that some people are softies (like me ;)) and came up with a great plan. I think it’s a wonderful idea and it certainly works for me. Made you curious? Yessss, mission accomplished. Please, pick up a copy and find out what I am going on about. 🙂

A story about a dog that stole my heart straight from the start. A book I will not easily forget. 5 stars

Thank you, Steve N. Lee

About the author

Apart from animals and writing, Steve’s passion is travel. He’s visited 58 countries and enjoyed some amazing experiences, including cage-diving with great white sharks, sparring with a monk at a Shaolin temple, and watching a turtle lay eggs on a moonlit beach. He’s explored Machu Picchu, Pompeii, and the Great Wall of China, yet for all that, he’s a man of simple tastes — give him an egg sandwich and the TV remote control, and he’ll be happy for hours!

He lives in the North of England with his partner, Ania, and two black cats who graciously allow Steve and Ania to stay in their house.
