Q&A
What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
When I wrote my first book THREE and the second book TWO I had just returned from London and Paris and specifically chose those 2 cities as the backdrops for my books.
- Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Exhausts me. Normally I start writing at about 4 am and finish by 7 am. During that time, I write the first draft of the chapter and then edit it twice, once for content and then for grammar.
- What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Not figuring out the structure of their novels, not to be confused with outlining. I don’t outline; however, I do plot the points of the story, so I know where the pacing has to increase and slow down.
- Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
I think a big ego would hurt a writer. There will be people who don’t like your work or maybe even understand it. If your ego is too big then you may not be willing to be open to suggestions to make it better for a better reading experience. We are learning as we grow and if you are willing to take criticism then you are overlooking an opportunity to make your work better.
- Have you ever gotten reader’s block?
Yes absolutely. I have had friends ask me to read their work which is in a genre I have no interest such as sci-fi and find it nearly impossible to read much less give good feedback and a valuable critique.
- Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Yes, I have thought about writing a rom com and to do so I would use a pseudonym, so people don’t get confused with me genre hopping.
- Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I write where the story takes me not “write to market.”
- Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Yes, not every genre calls for you to be emotional. People who write non-fiction do not need to tap into emotions.
- Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
I like writing standalones in a series, so people become connected to my characters.
