One dead, one missing, and one who was never there.
In a sleepy town in South Carolina, nineteen year old Addy Marks has spent the past two years coming to grips with the mysterious death of her friend Beau and the disappearance of her boyfriend Mason. After the annual Dogwood festival, three boys were seen heading toward a local silo. When morning arrived, Beau’s body was discovered, Mason was missing, and Hunter, the best friend of the two boys, claims he wasn’t at the silo.
Two years later everything is turned upside down when Mason unexpectedly returns to town, but before Addy can meet with him he is found murdered. Coping with her best friend’s lies, uncovering the last standing Silo Boy’s sealed alibi, and protecting her friends from harm, Addy must figure out what happened that night at the silo before anyone else loses their life. As she exposes the tragic mystery, she realizes that everyone holds tightly to their secrets and misdeeds.
Q&A
– When and where do you prefer to write?
I prefer to write in the morning when I can, ideas seem to flow better when it’s early. Right now, I write whenever my son takes a nap!
– Do you have a certain ritual?
Not really, but I do like to tuck away in my office in the quiet and go over my notebooks and reread the last few chapters before starting in for the day.
– Is there a drink of some food that keeps you company while you write?
Coffee if it’s morning and Sun Drop if it’s afternoon and I’m dragging a little. And snacks, a lot of snacks.
– What is your favourite book?
I have so many! My favourite book ever is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. My favourite from the past few years is a tie between We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and Burying the Honeysuckle Girls by Emily Carpenter.
– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?
Yes! I am actually working on a new book right now that is middle grades with some magical elements to it. I love YA suspense but what I am working on now is so much fun to write.
– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?
A little bit. The settings I write about are based on real places but the characters are fictional. Every now and then a mannerism or characteristic from someone I know will show up in a character, but it is usually a very small detail.
– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?
Yes I do! I have dozens of cute notebooks scattered around the house and in my purse. I love them.
– Which genre do you not like at all?
That is a tough one. I love all genres, so many types of books catch my interest. I would have to say that what I read the least is science fiction and memoirs. I enjoy them both but I don’t read them as much as some other genres.
– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
E. Lockhart. We Were Liars was just so inspiring to me, it would be an absolute dream to work with the person who created it.
– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?
I would love to do research in Iceland. Everything about it just seems so beautiful to me, the language, the scenery, all of it. I think there is definitely great story inspiration in the ice caves and the Icelandic countryside.
