Q&A

Whom did you inherit your love for books/reading from?

To be honest I can’t remember, it might be my mum. I just remember my Nan giving me a copy of Lord of The Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring when I was about 6 and from then I devoured books

Can you name one of the best books you ever read?

Gosh! This is hard! I mean, I have a few, in so many genres! I can tell you the book that got me hooked on to Horror and their work – One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon.

What is your favourite and least favourite genre?

Horror is my FAV genre. I don’t get to read enough of it these days but I love everything to do with horror. I would say probably Sci-Fi but I think it’s because I am probably not all that clever for it 😉

Which character would you like to be in this book?

None of them!

How do you come up with names for your characters?

As funny as it sounds, they named themselves. I didn’t know what their names were until I was typing and they told me.

If you should travel to a foreign country to do research for your next book, which one would it be and why?

I mean there are loads of places I would want to travel to, but none for my books. Maybe some of the haunted places in America – or Alcatraz. But maybe I will just pick Las Vegas or Hawaii for “research” *ahem*

Do you always take a book wherever you go?

Hell yeah! My kindle goes EVERYWHERE with me, doesn’t matter where I go

Do you go to the library?

I try to go with the mini me fortnightly so that I can get her to love books as much as me. She loves the outing that we make of it so we have some bonding time. I still borrow books from the library despite my towering pile to read.

Have you already started writing a new book?

Yes, the next two are both part written. One is on hold for some research I need to do with VR Headsets and the other is halfway but just not had the time to write lately. Both will be nods to different horror films

What is the title of the next book on your to read pile?

To be honest, I am not sure. I have a few books for tours but I am going away over Christmas, but due to an injury I can’t ski so I have 7 days to myself to read and boy I CAN’T wait for that!

Thank you

Q&A

When and where do you prefer to write?

I found when writing this book, I quite enjoyed writing in my bed, with the lights out. Or sitting at my desk, with my floor to ceiling mirror behind me, you know just to add to the tension. But honestly, wherever I can set my laptop up.

Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?

Yes and no. I did write a lot of this on my own in the quiet of the night and needed the stillness to be able to concentrate but if I am researching then no, it can be as loud as you like.

If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

Oh gosh!! I have no idea! Seriously! I never thought I would be sitting here with my own book! Erm….jeez. I guess keeping in with my theme of YA Horror, it would have to be Christopher Pike, Caroline B. Cooney or R.L Stine. If I stepped into the adult horror, it would have to be Jonathan Janz for sure.

Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

Love this! I have already been a murderer and a victim. So, I guess a “bad one” just because it was more fun to read about. I may have giggled a lot when I was reading about “me” killing people – does that sound wrong?!

Who would you like/have liked to interview?

Oh I would love to interview Arnold Schwarzenegger! When I was growing up, not sure I should admit this, he was my first “celeb” crush! But then as I got older, I was just fascinated with him and his life. I have read his autobiography and watched all the documentaries as well as all his films and I still have so many questions!!

Where can I find you when you are reading?

Anywhere I can! In bed, sofa, car (when I am not driving), beach, anywhere I can get my book out and sit down or stand!

Where can I find you wen you are not writing/reading?

Well, I have a mini me, so normally ferrying her around to her friends, or playing games with her. As we live so far away from home, we try to meet up when we can, so most weekends we are going somewhere. Now the football season is back, I will be trying to get back home to spend time with my Mum and watching the matches.

What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

As I write this, my book hasn’t come yet. But I think it is safe to say I will be crying. It just doesn’t seem real to me yet!

How do you come up with a title for your book?

This book, actually Jim Ody of QMP did. I told him what it was about, and he just said as a joke (I think) what about Ouija? It just stuck. The next book just came to me, although it may have to change, might be too much of a spoiler 😉

How do you pick a cover for your book?

As soon as I started writing one of the scenes of the book, when the group does the Ouija board it came to me. I wanted the cover to represent a pivotal moment in the book. I spent ages burning paper and then drawing it just so I could get the concept in my mind. When I spoke to Elli (Toney) who designed my cover, she got it straight away and I got this amazing cover!
