The Summer Springsteen’s Songs Saved Me – Barbara Quinn / #Interview #BookBirthdayBlitz @rararesources @BarbaraQuinn

Coming home to catch her husband with his face between the long, silky legs of another woman is the last thing Sofia expects—and on today of all days. So, after scratching an expletive into his Porsche and setting the cheating bastard’s clothes on fire, she cranks up her beloved Bruce and flees, vowing never to look back.

Seeking solace in the peaceful beachside town of Bradley Beach, NJ, Sof is determined to start over. And, with the help of best friends, new acquaintances, a sexy neighbor, and the powerful songs of Springsteen, this may be the place where her wounds can heal. But, as if she hasn’t faced her share of life’s challenges, a final flurry of obstacles awaits.

In order to head courageously toward the future, Sofia must first let go of her past, find freedom, and mend her broken soul.

Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I like writing in the late afternoon and evening. I’m no good creatively in the morning, so that’s my time to get other tasks done. My favorite writing spot? My bed. I fluff up a bunch of pillows, cuddle with my laptop, and I’m in writing mode.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

I need quiet. No music in the background. No one asking me questions. Then I get lost in the world I’m creating and can follow the paths.

– Is there a drink of some food that keeps you company while you write?

A cup of green Jasmine tea is my favorite thing to keep next to me. Those first few warm sips settle my mind. The tea often grows cold as I forget about it once I’m going. But at some point I break and return to the cup, and still enjoy it at room temperature.

– What is your favourite book?

The Great Gatsby has always been my favorite book. I love the clean, clear, deceptively simple language and the rich setting.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

Yes! I love switching up genres. Stories of all sorts come to me. I understand from a marketing perspective why writers are expected to stick to only one genre, but that’s hard for me to do.

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

Oh my. Yes, I do. Sometimes people engage in behavior that demands to be documented. Real folks can be far more interesting than anything I can invent. I learn from them on a daily basis.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I’m not a notebook person, but if something important comes across my field of vision, or a phrase catches my attention, I may send myself an email or text on my phone.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

I read widely but Graphic novels leave me cold.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

Anne Tyler. I love her style and stories. Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, The Accidental Tourist, Breathing Lessons, and so many more. What a catalog!

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you choose and why?

Traveling is inspirational for me. I can see going to different parts of Italy and using them as a setting or perhaps as a background and family connection of a character. The nice part about Italy is it can be familiar and foreign at the same time. Most people are familiar with the major cities such as Rome and Florence, and with many types of Italian food, but I can bring them beyond those basics to a new world of sights, sounds, and tastes. I recently visited Sardinia, which is not such a popular destination for Americans. It’s filled with unusual sites such as the ancient Nuraghi stone formations which are still not understood. Those types of mysteries can add depth to a story.
