When and where do you prefer to write?
After almost two decades of writing at the kitchen table, I FINALLY have a space to call my own! I love my little study: it is light and airy and has a window that looks out onto trees. Bliss.
Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?
Hell, no. I love to listen to rowdy old school tracks like Korn, Metallica, Type O Negative, Linkin Park and all the other screamy metal types.
If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
I would never co-write a book. I am too much of a control freak and I may kill the other writer. It’s much safer if I stay a lone wolf!
Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
I think we all know the answer to this one … the EVIL ONE! A serial killer, even better.
Who would you like/have liked to interview?
Maya Angelou. She was a huge inspiration to me as a young teen mum. Seeing what she overcame to become such a beloved writer, poet and figure helped give me the resolve to go for my dreams too.
Where can I find you when you are reading? I am a librocubiculturist – this means I like to read in bed!
Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?
I’ll be draped on the sofa drinking cocktails and watching Netflix.
What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
‘I can’t believe I’ve written another book’ is swiftly followed by, ‘I can’t remember what the hell I wrote in THIS one!’ Seriously, I have writing amnesia I swear. Or maybe it’s because I write so much it’s hard to keep track.
How do you come up with a title for your book?
I usually go for something that feels ‘right’ then poll writer friends what they ‘see’ in their mind’s eyes when they hear the title. If it ‘matches’ then I use it. If not, back to the drawing board!
How do you pick a cover for your book?
My fabulous publisher usually asks for my opinion on colours, stock photos, etc. I love to do research, so will check out the trends in that niche too.’
