Five people, three secrets, one planned proposal. What could possibly go wrong?
A holiday in a luxury villa on Corfu sounds like the answer to all their prayers but it will change their lives forever. A week in paradise might not be long enough…
– When and where do you prefer to write?
I actually do most of my writing at the kitchen table, I’m not sure why. I have a lovely desk in front of a window with incredible views, but the kitchen is where I end up!
– Do you have a certain ritual?
When I am working on something, I sit and get straight on it first thing in the morning. I am an early bird by nature so do most of my writing before anyone else surfaces.
– Is there a drink of some food that keeps you company while you write?
Coffee – I’m not much of a snack person but my early starts do require caffeine.
– What is your favourite book?
I have to say My Family and Other Animals…after all it’s why I moved to Corfu!
– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?
Definitely – I have an idea for a crime novel which is quietly bubbling away; I hope to have time to work on it later this year.
– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?
It is inevitable that certain people’s personality traits come to mind when you are developing characters, but characters tend to be an amalgam rather than based on one individual.
– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?
I am an avid note taker; I have note books all over the place.
– Which genre do you not like at all?
I would have to say Horror, I went through a phase of enjoying it when I was younger but can’t get into it now.
– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
If I am allowed to pick someone who is no longer with us, I’d say Terry Pratchett. That man’s humour and intelligence amazes me every time I read his work.
– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?
I have been lucky enough to travel quite extensively through Europe with my work, which is where my inspiration to date has come from. But if I was going to choose, I’d say Sri Lanka. I had a brief holiday there and loved it, to be able to go back for ‘research’ would be fantastic!
