A Not So Quiet Christmas by Suzie Tullett / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources @SuzieTullett

A solo getaway at an English country cottage is a pleasant way to spend the holiday—but it takes two to really make things merry . . .

Antonia prefers a quiet Christmas. She’s happy to spend it on her own, watching Hallmark holiday movies in her pyjamas, eating what she wants, when she wants.

Antonia’s friend Jules, on the other hand, loves a big Christmas celebration and plans on travelling to the Yorkshire Dales for a festive break. But when Jules breaks her leg, she persuades Antonia to make the trip on her behalf. Arriving at the little cottage, Antonia meets the handsome property agent Oliver. But she can’t escape the weird locals—or avoid embarrassing situations like mistaking a cow for a burglar.

As Christmas approaches, the attraction between Oliver and Antonia grows. She could choose to return to the bustling city and spend it alone. Or she could choose love and have a not so quiet Christmas . .

Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I write anywhere and everywhere. We moved to a little cottage in Ireland last year which doesn’t have a home office, so I tend to sit at the kitchen table or on the sofa to work. My favourite place to write though would be a busy café. The noise doesn’t bother me because I find being around people motivating. Cafés are great places to people watch too, and as a character writer, this can be inspirational.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

No ritual. As long as I have access to coffee, I’m good to go. Although the romantic in me does like a nice fountain pen to write with.

– Is there a drink or some food that keeps you company while you write?

I think I’ve just answered that. Coffee, coffee, and more coffee.

– What is your favourite book?

As an avid reader, it would be hard to choose just one. I’m going to cheat a little here and say my favourite book would be any title written by Marian Keyes.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

I write romantic comedy, a genre that I love, and I can’t see myself giving up on these any time soon.  I do hope to write a satire though and have a seed of an idea niggling at my brain. I know the general theme of the project, but the details are evading me. All I can say is, watch this space.

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

I don’t base my characters on people I know, no. However, I might hear a snippet of a conversation when I’m out and about which gets my creative juices flowing. One or two sentences spoken by a stranger, their tone of voice, and certain mannerisms can be great sources of inspiration.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I do, yes. Inspiration can strike anywhere and the last thing I want is come up with a great idea only to forget it by the time I get home.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of crime fiction and I definitely don’t like horror. I much prefer uplifting reads and lean towards books that make me laugh. Plus, you can’t beat a good happy ever after.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

Marian Keyes. I’d learn so much and write a damn good book in the process.

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

Oooh, this is a hard one. I can’t think of a foreign country that wouldn’t make a great setting for a book. So, like with your favourite book question, I’m going to cheat and say I’d go on a European road trip where I can take in lots of different languages and cultures. It would be like researching a number of books all in one go.
