When We Say Goodbye by Michelle Vernal / #Interview #BlogTour @rararesources @MichelleVernal

Can you love when all seems lost?

Ellie Perkins life was right on track until her boyfriend Sam suffers a near-fatal car accident, leaving him in a coma and all their future plans in limbo.

Desperately in need of something to fix, Ellie has to find a project and when her grandparents old house is put up for sale, she jumps at the chance. Because, like Ellie, the house is broken. And if she can fix the house, then surely, it’s just a matter of time before she and Sam are back on their path to happily-ever-after…

In life, when the worst happens how do you pick up the pieces?

A heart-breaking story of love, loss and the path to forgiveness, perfect for fans of Faith Hogan and Amanda Prowse. To be read with tissues

– When and where do you prefer to write?

I prefer to write during the day, when my boys are at school. The afternoon tends to be more productive.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

I make a cup of coffee, get comfy on my favourite sofa in our conservatory which is a lovely space as it’s surrounded by greenery and very peaceful. I begin by going back over what I wrote yesterday and tweaking it before moving into the next chapter.

– What is your favourite book?

I don’t have a particular favourite but I would say my biggest writing influence as a child would have been Enid Blyton, I devoured her books. As an adult I love the Irish women’s fiction authors like Marian Keyes, Cathy Kelly and Maeve Binchy. I also love a good thriller and my go-to author at the moment is Lisa Jewell.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

I could see myself writing historical fiction perhaps.

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

I never solely base a character on someone I know but there will be definite aspects or traits of people I know in different characters.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

I do have a notebook in my bag and note pads scattered around the house. I often get ideas when I’m driving. I also love walking and lots of things come to me then when I don’t have a notepad to hand!

– Which genre do you not like at all?

I am not a fan of fantasy or science fiction.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

I would love to co-write with Marian Keyes, I love her humour.

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

If I was to travel to a foreign country for research it would have to be Italy.

Thanks so much.
