Q&A
- Which character would you like to be in this book?
I’d want to be Leonie. All the characters have a bit of me in them but Leonie has the most, and her POV is written in first person so I’m closest to her. She has some pretty tough decisions to make but she’s still who I’d like to be. My second choice would be Lilyrose. She’s a fairly minor character but she bounces around full of confidence, enthusiasm and happiness.
- Do you always take a book/ereader wherever you go?
I always have my phone on me (although it’s usually on silent) so I’ve always got an ereader app with me at least. If I go away I’ll probably stuff my Kindle and throw in a couple of paperbacks too.
- Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
Tricky question! They say the bad ones have more fun – but I think I’d still rather be the good one.
- Do you prefer to read/write standalones or series?
I don’t have a preference either reading or writing. With writing for me it’s a matter of how long the story needs, whether that’s a short story, novella, standalone novel or series.
When I’m reading, I do enjoy series – as long as the wait for the next book isn’t too long. But I enjoy standalones just as much. And I like series where each novel is a standalone, but you might meet characters from the previous book again.
- Where can I find you when you are reading?
Pretty much anywhere! Mostly likely either in bed, or curled up in a corner of the sofa. Or at the gym where I prop my ereader on the control panel of the treadmill.
- Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?
Probably with my husband. We’ve been married more than thirty years but we still enjoy spending time together and he’s my best friend. We enjoy walking – there’s very beautiful countryside around where we live – eating out, going to the cinema or theatre, and just staying in together.
- Can you walk past a bookstore without going inside?
I can. Honest, I can. But why would I want to?
- What are you most proud of?
Easy. My children. Cloth of Grace is dedicated to my eldest son, Adam.
- What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
Wow! Just wow. This is the fourth book and unboxing it is just the same as when I unboxed the first one. That feeling doesn’t get old.
- What piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Finish it. That’s always my first piece of advice. So many people start writing and never finish the story so that puts you ahead of the game already. And once it’s all written down you can edit it. You can’t edit a blank page.

About the author
Rachel J Bonner is the author of the compelling and enthralling four book Choices and Consequences series. The first book in the series, Strand of Faith, was published in November 2018. Book 2, Thread of Hope, released on 2nd May 2019, followed by Weave of Love on 24th October. The story concludes with Cloth of Grace, released on 29th February 2020.
Rachel has a degree in engineering, which she followed with a career in accountancy which is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in fantasy or romance. Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun. When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club. Shooting targets only, honest. Nothing to worry about. (Okay, sometimes we shoot Polo mints. Or cabbages. Still nothing to worry about.)
She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary. It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.
