Q&A
When and where do you prefer to write?
When the creativity flows anytime and anywhere is good for me. These days, I really enjoy writing on my couch in front of the pink Christmas tree the kids made for me. They wanted to give our living room a Pink and Country vibe which is absolutely adorable.
Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?
I like to. But it’s not always possible. Sometimes I write at night just to get that peace and quiet feeling. Most of the time, the kids are around, and it’s okay. I can adapt.
What is your favourite and least favourite genre?
I don’t like sci-fi or paranormal. I like when things are much more realistic. It goes for movies too. I love thrillers and emotional romance. I need depth in the stories I read or I feel like I’m missing something.
Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
The bad one is often one of the most exciting characters. They are multi-dimensional. I think it would depend how bad it is.
Where can I find you when you are reading?
In my car waiting for the kids as a play cab all over town, in the living room with my dog snuggling up against me, or in my bed when I can’t find sleep.
Where can I find you wen you are not writing/reading?
Doing a DIY project. I love restoring old furniture or painting. Playing board games with my kids. Watching a “lovers movie” as she calls it, with my daughter. Or on a roadtrip somewhere in the US or Canada, discovering all those small towns I love so much.
What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
Ohmygod, did I really write this? There’s always a wave of pride washing over me. And yes, I love my ebooks, but there’s just something incredible about holding a physical copy of your book in your hands and being able to actually touch it. It makes it so much more real.
How do you come up with a title for your book?
It usually just pops into my head. When it doesn’t, I have a hard time coming up with something, because I have so many options.
How do you pick a cover for your book?
It needs to be love at first sight. I know it’s the right one when I see it. Sometimes it takes a few adjustments, but other times, it’s just perfect from the first take.
What is the title of the next book on your to read pile?
Right now, I don’t have one. When I do, I feel compelled to read them. But I really wanna focus on my writing right now, so I try to avoid temptation. When I feel like reading, though, I go with something that fits my state of mind and my mood of the moment, hoping it will be the right choice.
There’s nothing more satisfying than reading the last words of a story that filled your heart with so many emotions.
