When a high-end escort is discovered murdered in her plush waterside apartment, so begins the hunt for a serial killer known as The Crucifier due to the unusual slaying and positioning of his victims. In parallel there remains the need to locate a dangerous and elusive doomsday cult. DCI William Chamberlain and DI Judd Stone have an acute thirst for justice on both accounts. Stone is an ex-football hooligan turned cop. Riddled with guilt and anger, he is used to getting results – albeit somewhat unconventionally. Chamberlain suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, but curiously, as his health deteriorates, his ability to perform acts of telekinesis increases. When faced with life or death, Chamberlain progresses from manipulating physical matter to controlling minds and sets in motion a dramatic chain of events. But why do things spiral out of control, placing an unknown high-profile target in danger? Assistance comes from the most unlikely of sources but who is also working against the wheels of justice? And just what is the connection between The Crucifier, the cult and the high-profile target? With Spaghetti Western overtones, the chase from Liverpool to London and through both Birmingham UK and Alabama, finds both detectives having to confront their darkest demons in pursuit of the sweet taste of revenge.

Q&A

When and where do you prefer to write?

I tend to write at weekends fitting writing in around all the other things in life, but I’m not complaining, I’m grateful for spending time with my family. When I write I simply tend to sit on the sofa with the recliners up and have the laptop on my lap. Sorry, not a very Rock & Roll answer.

Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?

Yes and No. I can sometimes put a CD on or even have the TV in the background. The music can be inspirational but for a tricky piece of writing I like peace and quite so I can get lost in the zone.

If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

What a great question. To be honest there are a few authors I’d happily work with. I think this is something I could definitely embark on with my good friend D.G Torrens and it would make an interesting read as our genres aren’t too similar.

Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

I really wouldn’t mind as long as they were a decent character. I have actually appeared as a character, or rather my name has, as part of a competition I won ran by fellow author R.H Dixon.

Who would you like/have liked to interview?

John Lennon without a doubt. My first love before writing was music so I could talk for hours about that with him, but I also found his whole intellect and character fascinating. In my eyes he was a complex and interesting genius.

Where can I find you when you are reading?

In bed last thing at night. I also like to read when on holiday lying by a pool – something I hope to be able to do again soon.

Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

When football matches are allowed to be played again, I’ll be at Molineux stadium watching my beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers. I do like a trip to the pub as well, but even when we come out of lockdown I will be bingeing on Netflix a fair amount.

What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

Yes, I’m pleased with that cover and I hope it brings enjoyment to those that read it.

How do you come up with a title for your book?

Music features a lot in my books and it has actually inspired many of my book titles. For example, Mind Guerrilla is taken from one of my favourite John Lennon songs ‘Mind Games’. Mind Guerrilla is the first book in the Judd Stone series and Judd, like me, is a Lennon fan. I’m working on book four of the series at the moment and Judd will be starring in Double Fantasy, the title is the same as Lennon’s final album which was released in 1980 sadly around the time of his death. I also have a stand-alone book, it’s a story of a troubled rock star who buys a haunted house. It is set in the 1990s and it’s called Things They’ll Never See, I’m sure the title won’t be lost on Oasis fans.

How do you pick a cover for your book?

I look for images or ideas that represent the plot. Three of the covers for my existing five books were brilliant interpretations from the cover artist from me just telling him what was in my head. In fact, he deserves a shout out, his name is Ares Jun. I do think that a cover needs to be eye-catching as I think people can be drawn to a book by its cover even if they don’t ultimately judge a book by its cover.
