Q&A

– When and where do you prefer to write?

Ideally we both love to write when feeling inspired and lots of thoughts running through our heads, I(Sarah) like to write snuggled warm in bed at night in the winter with a warm coffee. However realistically we write when our children are at school. We love writing together on Gemma’s dining room table with the sun shining and the bifold doors open.

– Do you have a certain ritual?

Kids to school! Coffee over a recap of what we have done and the plan of action for the day. More coffee after a sense of achievement. We both write a separate chapter then the other will go over it and change/add bits and will go back and forth until we are happy with that chapter.

– Is there a drink of some food that keeps you company while you write?

Coffee, Pepsi max cherry. Biscuits and Maltesers. Sometimes we order a bakery delivery through Uber eats.

– What is your favourite book?

Behind closed doors, BA Paris is the favourite of both of us, it’s a book that has stayed with us long after we had read it.

– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?

It isn’t something we have currently discussed. We absolutely love thrillers and can’t really see us straying into territories that we don’t have the same passion with.

– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?

Ha, some of the small characters have the names of people we know and a couple of mannerism’s. In our next book there are a few characters based on people we know but shhhh don’t tell them.

– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?

We both had a notebook in our bags to begin with as we found we got quite a few ideas when out and about, but by the time we could stop and write these down we couldn’t remember them. So we use our phones when out walking with the dogs to record our ideas and we have both invested in an alexa for the car to record notes whilst driving.

– Which genre do you not like at all?

We would say that Sci-fi and fantasy is our least favourite, we like genres that are believable and the plot in the book could actually happen.

– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

Chris Carter, that man has such sick plots and would be such fun to work with. Although it may scar us for life, if we survived..

– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?

Somewhere hot like Spain to research the beaches, bars, local food and write in the sun.
