Lost and confused, Linnea finds herself in the power of Hrafn, a Viking warrior who claims her as his thrall and takes her on a treacherous journey across the seas to sell her for profit. Setting sail, she confronts the unthinkable: she has travelled back to the ninth century.
Linnea is determined to find a way back to her own time, but there’s a connection forming with Hrafn. Can she resist the call of the runes and accept her destiny lies here …

Q&A
– When and where do you prefer to write?
I write when I feel inspired so that means some days I’ll write all day (and all night), and others not at all. I love writing that first draft, when everything is new and exciting and I’m not quite sure what the characters will do next (they tend to have a mind of their own). The editing stage, not so much … As to where – either at my desk in my study or sitting on the floor with my laptop. I have a very elderly dog who prefers me to be down at his level and right next to him, so lately I’ve spent a lot of time on the floor.
– Do you have a certain ritual?
Not really, but unless I’m only just starting out, I tend to read through at least a chapter of what I did the day before so that I get into the story again. That way it’s easier to just carry on.
– Is there a drink or some food that keeps you company while you write?
Chocolate! My stories are all fuelled by Cadbury’s Bourneville – far too much of it in fact. I’m not a great tea or coffee drinker so chocolate gives me a boost instead.
– What is your favourite book?
I’m afraid I could never pick just one as I have lots of favourites, but my ultimate comfort read is Georgette Heyer’s Cotillion – that never fails to cheer me up.
– Do you consider writing a different genre in the future?
I might, but whatever it is, it will always feature romance of some kind. So far I’ve already tried historical romance, timeslip romance, YA romance and now time travel – I’m not sure I’d be any good at anything else!
– Do you sometimes base your characters on people you know?
Not friends or people I’ve met, but I do base them on famous actors and singers sometimes. Mostly something about the way they look and talk will inspire a character and I make up their personality to suit my story.
– Do you take a notebook everywhere in order to write down ideas that pop up?
I used to but these days I’m more likely to write myself an email on my mobile. It’s easier in the middle of the night too as I can actually see what I’m writing, rather than fumbling around in the dark for pen and paper. I also take a lot of photos with my phone to remind me of certain places and things.
– Which genre do you not like at all?
I don’t dislike any particular genres, but I hate stories with sad or confusing endings, or anything involving cruelty to animals.
– If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
I’d be happy to co-write a book with any of my friends in the RNA, they’re all great authors.
– If you should travel to a foreign country to do research, which one would you chose and why?
At the moment I have two countries on my bucket list – Iceland and Italy. I really want to go to Iceland to do some research for my next Viking story, and after that I’d like to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum with a view to setting a story there.
