Q&A

When and where do you prefer to write?

I’m a ‘spur of the moment’ type writer, whenever I see something that reminds me of my past or triggers a emotion I’ll pick up a pen and notebook

Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?

It helps but I can write anywhere, sometimes the ‘noise’ helps invoke the emotions

What is your favourite and least favourite genre?

My favorite authors are Mathew O’Reilly, Brad Thor, Brad Taylor, Vince Vaughn, so I guess I really enjoy the fast paced thriller types. I started reading Jeff Vickers, who is another great up and coming sober author. My least favorite genre would have to be romance, I think the writers are creating this unreachable fantasy type fairy tale life for its readers that they will never be able to find in real life.

Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

Hopefully the ‘good one’ lol but I like to think that my past life doesn’t own me anymore so why should it matter if they portray me as the villain in their own story?

Where can I find you when you are reading?

At home on the couch

Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

Working, it feels like I’m always working lol but its a good thing I guess, outside of my real job I spend a bunch of time trying to help people online thru social media and my new nonprofit, Recovery-Revolution. Org

What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

Pride, Joy, then Fear, lol. I believe all authors hope their book does well, why else do we write? I hope my book finds the people that needed to read it. Whenever I write on social media I always write to reach that one person that may struggling with something and I hope they find Hope. The ‘working title’ for my book was actually The Hope Manual, because that is exactly what I think it provides.

How do you come up with a title for your book?

The Addiction Manifesto, somehow I was drawn to the name because addiction has a tendency to take over lives, and the rules are there are no rules as long as you keep feeding it.

How do you pick a cover for your book?

I was looking for something that symbolizes the power of recovery and the Phoenix really stood out because its about rising up from the ashes (addiction) to be reborn (recovery)

What is the title of the next book on your to read pile?

Joseph Conniff’s Causes & Conditions: A Life Experience in Addiction & Recovery, he was a guest on our recovery podcast (Monday 8pm EST recovery revolution facebook page) and he really had a unique approach to recovery which reminded me of my own personal approach so I am looking forward to reading it.

Review

In this book the author wants to share not only his own battle against addiction, but he also wants to stress how hard it still sometimes is, after being clean. Addiction turns people into slaves and tries to keep them under its thumb for as long as possible after having taken everything from them.

Family and friends are turned away and a hit or a drink becomes the most import thing, much more important than children, work, etc.

Fighting against your own demons is a lot more engergy consuming than giving in. You really really have to be strong and without the help of people who love and support you around you, it’s almost impossible to give up and start walking the long road to recovery. You have to want it for 100% or the devil will pull you under once again.

The author gives tips about what you can do to help you during your struggle and he cannot repeat enough how important it is and how wonderful life is once you claim it back and take control again.

There is also a part in the book where the author lets other winners tell us their devastating and heartbreaking stories. It are each and every one eye openers and please share this book with people around you. Show these stories to teenagers and I hope form the bottom of my heart it will keep them away from all this.

Thank you for sharing all this and for all your honesty. 5 stars

Thank you, J.R. Weaver

About the author

JR Weaver is an army veteran and person in long-term recovery who is passionate about the health and  wellness of others. He is looking to assist millions of people in different parts of the world through their journey to recovery as he details his experience and struggles with the hope of championing a global recovery revolution.

Substance abuse and addiction remain a major plague that has continued to generate a lot of conversation across the globe due to its effect on people as well as its impact on the economies of nations. Unfortunately, recent statistics have shown a worrisome increase in the number of people suffering from addiction. According to a recent report published by the World Health Organization, about 270 million people, approximately 5.5% of the global population aged between 15 and 64, used psychoactive drugs with an estimated 35 million people suffering from drug use disorders and over 180 thousand deaths linked to drug use disorders in 2019.

Unfortunately, many of the available addiction recovery resources are seemingly abstract, ultimately failing to yield the desired results.

JR Weaver aims to change this narrative with the release of his own story about recovery.
