- Do you always take a book/e-reader wherever you go?
If I had my way, I’d be constantly buried in a book. But my wife is pretty good at reminding me to pay attention to her and the kids, too. I do read daily, though. Usually in the evenings. If I go too long without reading, I tend to feel out of whack.2. Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
Hey, make me bad, please. It’d be refreshing to see an alternate, antagonistic version of myself!3. Where can I find you when you are reading?
Either on the couch in the living room, or stumbling across rooftops in my homemade cape.4. Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?
Curled up in a ball beneath my two wild, deranged children.5. Can you walk past a bookstore without going inside?
I tried, once, but someone opened the door and I was sucked inside by some kind of supernatural force. I even lost a shoe in the process.6. What are you most proud of?
Writing-wise? Nothing makes me prouder than hearing a reader say that they enjoyed a story of mine. Aside from writing? I’m most proud of bringing two wonderful little goofballs into the world, along with my wife. Aside from those things? I’m most proud of my secret superpower—and no, I won’t say what that is, otherwise I’d have to kill you.7. What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
“Is it too late for one last rewrite?”8. What piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Every author was an “aspiring author” at one point. If you really want it, make it happen. Be willing to fail. Be willing to learn from those failures. Be determined to not stop until you get it.9. Who would you like/have liked to interview?
Ray Bradbury. He was a tremendous writer who, from what I can tell, also had a beautiful soul.10. When and where do you prefer to write?
Anywhere quiet and cozy. I know there are some writers out there who believe in feeling uncomfortable while working, but I’m not one of them. For me: the less stress and distractions, the better. I have a little writing desk with a vintage, Edison-esque lamp, and an over-sized nautical hourglass. Those two things, a padded chair, plus my laptop, and I’m happy—at least until that dreaded Writer’s Block shows up to haunt me.
