Q&A
When and where do you prefer to write?
I try to be flexible, as I feel that’ll be a good skill for me to have as a writer in the future. So I’ve written in restaurants, during parties, in parks, on every vacation, and just about anywhere else I can think of. (Including during school—sorry, Mom! I couldn’t help it!)
But I actually prefer writing late at night at my desk!
Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?
Not really! I actually need something in the background … music, talk, a movie, etc. I struggle to work in silence because I get easily distracted.
If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
Oh, I don’t know! I have some friends I’d love to co-write a book with, but if I ever do, it’ll be a long time in the future.
Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
Either! But the bad one would definitely be more fun.
Who would you like/have liked to interview?
I would love to interview Keira Knightley, who is my favorite actress, or some of my favorite authors: Jane Austen, Gene Stratton-Porter, et cetera. But if I could interview any one person, living or dead, I would absolutely choose C.S. Lewis. I’d love the chance to talk to that man (Heaven goals, right?).
Where can I find you when you are reading?
Again, just about anywhere. But I’d say I usually read in my room on my bed!
Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?
Usually I’m hanging out with my husband or friends, watching TV, going on walks/hikes, and trying to balance all the other non-writing tasks related to running my author business!
What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
Usually, “I hope there aren’t any errors!” I AM excited about it—don’t get me wrong. However, my mind is usually on the next step of the process.
How do you come up with a title for your book?
It can be challenging! Usually it takes me a bit. However, thankfully, in my genre there are some rather set ways to put together titles, so if I’m struggling, it’s not too hard to figure something out.
How do you pick a cover for your book?
I usually just trust my designer. She’s the professional here! Generally I’ll offer a few hints about the plot and setting, and she’ll do the rest. I almost never have to ask for another draft these days! She’s amazing. If you need a professional cover done, check out Carpe Librum Book Design. 🙂

Kell lives on family-owned property outside an unmemorable but historical town with her parents, two little brothers, precious border collies, a dozen cows, and lots of chickens. She also possesses a classic, vintage aesthetic which does not at all speak to her country girl side, but such is life.
