Interview
When and where do you prefer to write?
I like writing in my car drinking a coffee and watching the world go by. Also sitting at home with the computer on my lap.
Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?
Not really. I like silence, but I can write with the telly on. It’s the real world, after all.
If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?
Jo Nesbo, no question.
Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?
Depends. Do you mean as a character? I think I’d like to be the…spins the wheel… the good one!
Who would you like/have liked to interview?
James Gandolfini/ Tony Soprano. He died far too young.
Where can I find you when you are reading?
Sitting on the couch in the living-room, but more often in bed. I always read before going to sleep.
Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?
At work or in Costa. I love Costa. And, my wife, who is very handy/practical, always wants me to help her around the house with something.
What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?
Bit of everything, fear, excitement, confusion, like a sailor looking out to sea wondering wants coming over the horizon.
How do you come up with a title for your book?
With great difficulty!
How do you pick a cover for your book?
I’ve only done this once, with my current book. I had an image in mind, and Elli Toney, who is extremely talented, delivered no problem.

About the author
I’ve been writing all my life and have an M.Phil in Creative Writing from Trinity College, Dublin. However, I never really had the confidence, or focus, to pursue it properly until relatively recently. I am a civilian employee of the Irish police, An Garda Síochána. Since 2014 I have written six novels, three published by Bookouture. More recently, I Know Your Secret, a domestic psychological thriller, will be published by Question Mark Press on November 1 next. I also like to play guitar, write the odd ditty, and sing American country songs.
