Q&A

When and where do you prefer to write?

At the moment my routine, timewise, is governed by the weather. There’s always something to do outside, especially after the very wet weather we’ve had recently!

I’m very lucky that when my husband retired, he gave up his little office for me to use. I’m very happy with it.

· Do you need peace and quiet when you are writing?

To a certain extent. But now I’m settled into my new space, I might experiment with music!

· If you had the chance to co-write a book. Whom would it be with?

That’s a very interesting question. I don’t have a name in my head but I do have a story in mind which would require a great deal of ‘social’ knowledge about the first world war. So if anyone’s out there, please get in touch!

· Say someone asks if they can use your name in a book. Would you rather be the ‘good one’ or the ‘bad one’?

What a great question! Since my name has ‘Bad’ in it, I’d have to go with that.

· Who would you like/have liked to interview?

Anthony Burgess – although I’m not sure my intellect is up to that, or Spike Milligan – with different sorts of reservations!

· Where can I find you when you are reading?

I rarely read these days, but when I do, it’s sitting up in bed.

· Where can I find you when you are not writing/reading?

I’d normally be outside. My house has a bit of land around it and there’s always something that needs doing.

· What goes through your mind when you hold your new book in your hands for the first time?

Relief if it looks OK (Assuming it does!)

· How do you come up with a title for your book?

With the Karen Thorpe series, the title is governed by the central character/s of the stories so it’s easy. For my standalone titles, they normally come to me from the mood or central theme of the book.

· How do you pick a cover for your book?

I usually have an idea in my head and try to convey that to the cover designer.

About the author

Jane writes novels, short stories and poems, usually with a good dose of humour in them. She’s probably owes it all to her late grandmother who, she’s just found out, also wrote short stories and poems. She tends to get an idea and then run with it whether it be a 100 word short story or an 80 thousand word novel. It all depends on the voices in her head at the time…
